Tucked away in Mayfair’s refined streets, Claridge House has always had quiet presence, graceful, timeless, and unmistakably London. Now, it’s earned a new distinction: winner of the AJ Retrofit Award in the Decarbonisation & Net Zero category. Designed by PDP London, this ambitious retrofit sets a new benchmark for sustainable transformation within the constraints of heritage architecture.
For PassivGlas™, this recognition carries real meaning. As a supply-only company, we don’t often stand in the spotlight. Our role is quieter, focused on precision and performance. But when projects like this succeed, when advanced secondary glazing helps unlock deep carbon savings without touching the building’s character, it reminds us why we do what we do.
A Retrofit with Heritage at Heart
Claridge House presented the kind of challenge that defines modern sustainability work: how do you drive serious efficiency gains without compromising the original fabric? The timber windows, protected and beautifully detailed, needed to stay. Yet achieving net-zero standards demanded a level of thermal performance far beyond what traditional single glazing could offer.
That’s where PassivGlas™ came in. Our vacuum glazing units were installed as secondary glazing within the existing timber frames, a careful intervention that preserved every visible detail. The results matched the performance of high-end triple glazing, with minimal disruption to the building’s envelope and occupants.

The Results Speak for Themselves
While PassivGlas™ wasn’t part of the formal award submission, our glazing played a quiet but vital role in the outcome. Every pane helped the project meet its ambitious net-zero targets while keeping the building’s historical soul intact.
A Shared Vision for the Future
Claridge House stands as proof that heritage and high performance can coexist. With the right approach, older buildings can be reimagined for a low-carbon future, beautifully, responsibly, and without compromise.
To the full project team – PDP London, Jeremy Murphy, and everyone involved – our sincere congratulations. It’s an honour to see PassivGlas™ secondary glazing contributing to a project that’s shaping the future of sustainable retrofit.
